Greetings Miners!
Welcome to my webpage! Let me begin with a little about myself. I am a graduate of UC Riverside with a history degree and a teaching credential. I have been teaching social studies here at YHS since 2006, but I have been in Siskiyou County since 1994. I live in beautiful Etna with my three children. I moved there from southern Cal where I taught at Montclair High School for 5 years. I don't have a hometown to speak of as I grew up as a military kid moving from place to place. When I am not working, I enjoy photography, hiking, biking, running, reading and being a mom to three busy kids. I am also an occasional aerobics instructor at Scott Valley Fitness Center.
Along with teaching social studies, I also serve as the activities director. That puts me in charge of the ASB leadership class, which plans and executes school activities like dances, rallies, blood drives, and so forth. Yes, that makes me busy, but I work with great students!
In both my World History and U.S. History classes, I have designed my curriculum to cover most of the topics in the History-Social Science Content Standards for California Public Schools for grade ten and grade eleven.
As for teaching style, I work hard to use a variety of strategies to address the various learning styles of students. Learning history requires a certain amount of reading from the history book , which each student has assigned to them for home use. But there are other methods of learning I use, such as utilizing an interactive notebook, creating visuals in charts or posters, working in pairs or groups, doing active simulations, just to name a few things.
I am an approachable and evolving instructor who wants students to succeed on many levels. I see students here at Yreka High as not just learning history, but as teenagers in the process of developing into mature, productive, kindly people; at least, that is my hope and I will do what I can to make a reality.
GO MINERS!
